Wallpaper Removal Techniques
Wallpaper removal is a project that is much easier than you would expect, if you have the right techniques and products.
Should you hang new wallpaper over old wallpaper? Definitely not! If you want great results, that old paper really needs to go. Do note that removing old wallpaper is always easier if the wall was properly prepped in the first place ‒ with an oil-based primer.
Use a Steamer
Found at most tool rental shops, using a steamer is simple. Just add water, plug it into an outlet and steam your walls one by one. The wallpaper will come unglued all by itself! Use a scraper to remove residue. Before applying new paint or wallpaper, clean wall surfaces with trisodium phosphate to eliminate any trace of the old adhesive.
Use Wallpaper Stripper
Mix a measure of stripper in very hot water, and spray it on your walls. Let it rest a few minutes then remove the old wall-covering with a wallpaper remover/scraper. Before applying new paint or wallpaper, clean wall surfaces with trisodium phosphate to eliminate all traces of the old adhesive.
